EASTER HOLIDAYS!
Day 1: Pompeii...is a city that is buried in ashes. A really difficult place to walk on because of the many large boulders on the ground. Really sunny. A place of great civilisation since BC. A place full of arches, mountains and rocks.
I love the large amphitheature. We climbed all the way to the top it was so windy and so high. Could see the whole amphitheatre from here.
Day 2: we took a cruise to Capri, a small island off the shores of Naples. The journey is about 1 hour there. Luckily the weather was good. Capri is an island surrounded by mountains in the background and the sea in the foreground. It's really a self-contained town where the high-class shops are...like D&G and ferregamo. We ascended through the narrow little streets beside the houses to the market centre where we ate traditional italian food like a pizza but it's wrapped and the fillings are sandwiched between, and also a riso ball. Delicious!
Took a small boat to tour around the island and arrived at the grotto: where I took yet another even smaller boat with meihua, gan and yanling and we went into a tunnel inside the island. Inside we saw glowing blue reflections from the surface of the waters. It's actually the reflection of the sunlight hitting the water from underneath the rocks! Really nice....but the tiny boat is not exactly comfortable and the journey very short. Paid like 19euros in total for the 2 boats.
Day 3, 4, 5 and 6: ROME!
Took lots of photos with yanling my new bf...lols
Me and meihua were busy picking stones that look like hearts on the ruins of the roman forum...
We stumbled upon a heart shaped boulder on the way to the colosseum!
We went to the Vatican City, the place where the pope lives. The scale of the buildings are amazing. It's like a place for giants...
The cupola is the highest point of the St Peter's cathedral. After waiting for like 1 hour for the queue we went up 500+ steps to the top. There were 2 stops, the first we went to the top inside the cathedral. It was about 176m from the bottom and we could see the interior of St Peter's from a bird's eye view. Of course we were surrounded by fences. The second exit was to the exterior of the cupola. From the top, we could see the entire city of Rome.
Also the Sistine Chapel...despite the crazy crowd we manage to catch the famous ceiling done my Michaelangelo. The entire Vatican musuem is totally filled with loads of artworks...not just on canvases but also on walls and ceilings. At first we thought the ceiling was real but then we realise that it was actually ALL painted. They also paint the pillars and literally everything inside the building. We took thousands of photos.
